Former NSW State of Origin forward Ryan Matterson is set to make a comeback to the NRL after a disappointing spell with Super League club Warrington Wolves, coached by Sam Burgess.
Matterson's move to England mid-season from the Parramatta Eels failed to gain traction, with the 30-year-old managing just eight appearances for Warrington and only one win.
With Burgess unable to guide the Wolves into the playoffs, the back-rower has decided to return home.
CODE Sports revealed that Matterson's management are now exploring options across Australia for the 181-game veteran as he looks to revive his NRL career and prove he can still make an impact at the highest level.

He remains contracted to Parramatta until the end of the 2026 season, keeping a potential Eels return firmly on the table.
Parramatta allowed Matterson to head to England on loan after he fell out of favour with new coach Jason Ryles, featuring just four times in the NRL this year before being dropped to NSW Cup.
Despite his struggles in the UK, Matterson insists he still has plenty to offer at NRL level.
