A $150 million investment from the Los Angeles Sparks will bring a first-of-its-kind training and headquarters facility for a women's sports team to El Segundo, joining a growing cluster of professional franchises already in the city.
Scheduled to open in 2027, the 55,000-square-foot development will be the new home for the three-time WNBA champions.
The new facility, according to team officials, is the largest single investment in a women's sports team to date and places the Sparks alongside the Chargers, Lakers, Kings and Rugby LA in El Segundo's professional sports corridor.
"We're building a place where Sparks players can be at their best on and off the court," said Eric Holoman, managing partner and governor of the Sparks. "It reflects our commitment to our team, our fans, and the city of Los Angeles, and sets a new standard for what a professional sports organization can provide for its athletes."
The practice facility is designed by Gensler and managed by Transwestern's Sports and Entertainment Group. The team says the new project combines performance, recovery and community. Highlights include two WNBA regulation courts, a circular locker room, hydrotherapy suites, an outdoor spa pool, and nap rooms. The architecture features natural light, retractable doors and views of the Pacific Ocean and nearby mountains.
The interior will be designed by Studio Blitz, a women-run commercial design firm. Officials say the building reflects both the Sparks' identity and the energy of Los Angeles.
El Segundo Mayor Chris Pimentel called the project "a new standard in the league," adding, "We're thrilled that the WNBA's marquee franchise is building their new state-of-the-art headquarters and training facility here."
Christine Monjer, Sparks president, said El Segundo is "the perfect place" to build the team's future, citing its "vibrant sports family" and reputation for housing top organizations.
