Celtic drew 1-1 with Crvena zvezda in their Europa League opener tonight.

Made an outstanding save in the first half to deny Bruno Duarte what would've been a terrific long-range opener for the hosts. Danish goalkeeper was then called into action in the second half and was quick off his line to any threats. Almost lost his head at Yang Hyun-jun when he switched off after a quick Red Star throw-in led to a chance which they failed to take.

Colby Donovan - 8/10

Making his third consecutive start, the teenage right-back didn't look out of place. Donovan wasn't afraid to put himself about and whipped a number of dangerous crosses into the Red Star box. Brendan Rodgers clearly trusts the academy graduate whose impressive rise continues.

Cameron Carter-Vickers - 8/10

Covered well for young Donovan and defended admirably when tested. American made some crucial interventions in the second period when the game hung in the balance, but admittedly should've opened the scoring at the tail end of the first half when Benjamin Nygren's teasing free-kick delivery found him at the back post.

Liam Scales - 7/10

Centre-half carried out his defensive duties adeptly, reading the game well and making some crucial interventions when backs were to the wall. On the ball, Scales wasn't as effective and made a few loose passes. He and Carter-Vickers enjoyed some testing battles with veteran former Inter Milan man Marko Arnautovic throughout the evening, with Scales even squaring up to the imposing forward after he levelled things up on 65 minutes.

Kieran Tierney - 6/10

Off the back of completing a rare 90 minutes at the weekend, Tierney once more got the nod against Crvena zvezda. The full-back covered the left side well and looked to play slightly more inverted than usual, providing Sebastian Tounekti a continual option with underlapping runs to the byline.

Callum McGregor - 7/10

Celtic skipper has been criticised for a dip in performance levels at the start of this season, but he was an energetic customer in the midfield, winning the ball back for his side on several occasions. McGregor looked to drive his team forward in the middle of the park and led well.

A poor display from the Japanese midfielder. Particularly in the first half, Hatate gave the ball away countless times and was slack in his overall play. Hatate's displays can range from sensational to substandard. He undoubtedly edged closer toward the latter in the Serbian capital. Came off for Arne Engels with just under 20 minutes to play.

Benjamin Nygren - 7/10

Nygren can be a difficult player to understand. He possesses a mean set-piece delivery and regularly contributes with goals and assists, but he can go missing in games. The Swede grew into this one as it went on, and shortly after missing a considerable opportunity to break the deadlock at the beginning of the second 45, he manufactured Kelechi Iheanacho's opener, playing a fine pass from the inside-right channel into the Nigerian.

Yang Hyun-jun - 6/10

Cut a lonely figure at times on the right wing, who failed to really get himself into the game. Yang didn't make much happen, and maybe just isn't cut out for this level. Came off on 67 minutes to make way for James Forrest.

Sebastian Tounekti - 6/10

Tunisian dazzled in his first two Celtic appearances away to both Kilmarnock and Partick Thistle, scoring his maiden goal in green and white against the latter. He wasn't as impactful on this occasion, though, as he sought to link up on the left-hand side with Tierney.

Daizen Maeda - 6/10

Maeda was characteristically energetic in the press. He let Red Star's rearguard know all about his pace in the early stages, but the forward failed to make the ball stick and had next to no opportunities in front of goal to make his mark. Iheanacho came on to replace him at the break as Rodgers looked for more out of his striker.

Subs

Kelechi Iheanacho (Maeda 45) - Experienced striker made an instant impact when he opened the scoring with an exquisite finish 11 minutes into the second half. Another mammoth moment after his late debut winner at Rugby Park.

Arne Engels (Hatate 67) - Belgian failed to make a notable mark on proceedings after being introduced.

James Forrest (Yang 67) - Veteran winger brought more to the game than Yang.

Michel-Ange Balikwisha (Tounekti 76) - Came on for his fourth Celtic appearance with just under 15 to go, but didn't do much.

Marcelo Saracchi (Tierney 81) - Uruguayan took Tierney's berth in the closing stages.
