An arrest warrant is providing more information about what led up to the arrest of a volunteer fire captain in Suffield.

The Suffield Fire Department said John Guzie, 54, was arrested last month. He faces charges including disorderly conduct and conspiracy to commit assault.

A newly released arrest warrant says police responded to a home in West Suffield for a reported domestic incident after a group returned from a golf outing on Aug. 8.

Witnesses told police that Guzie arrived at the home in a Suffield fire chief's vehicle. He was the acting fire chief while the normal chief, Scott Cunningham, was on vacation, according to authorities.

People told authorities that Guzie allegedly yelled at people in the pool, accused someone of infidelity and caused a scene. He left, but his two sons arrived shortly after, according to the warrant.

Police said one of Guzie's sons swung a golf club and shouted threats at people. He and the other son are accused of assaulting people at the home afterwards, the warrant reads.

That's when Guzie came back and encouraged the fight, shouting for his sons to "teach a lesson," according to the warrant. Witnesses told police that Guzie physically grabbed a person's wrist in a threatening manner.

Guzie was held on a $90,000 bond and has since been released.

NBC Connecticut has reached out to the fire department about Guzie's employment status, but has not yet heard back.

The fire department said the case remains open pending further investigation.
