The Madison School District unveiled its new logo Sept. 9 as part of a branding launch. Madison is the second-largest district in Wisconsin and needs a brand that increases recognition, fosters pride and positions our schools effectively in the state's competitive K-12 landscape.
I was in the crowd when the logo was announced. So I can attest that support and enthusiasm was unmistakable from district staff, community members, business leaders and Madison Public Schools Foundation representatives who were there.
With many years of marketing under my belt, I'm well acquainted with the pitfalls of introducing a new logo. You can't please everyone (just ask Cracker Barrel), even if you engage extensively with lots of people during the project, as the Madison School District did.

Times change, organizations grow and the importance of smart marketing decisions increases every day. Brands should reflect these dynamics and drive momentum. The Madison district's new logo does this beautifully by combining our state Capitol dome to represent our beloved city and the universal symbol of learning: books.
Great things are happening in our public schools. The Madison School District is making tremendous investments in our schools, children and community as it grows. Look around and you'll see construction cranes and new housing developments.
The Madison School District is ready for learners today while paving the way for the success of our future students, neighbors and leaders. I can't think of a more effective way to ensure our community's economic vitality and quality of life.
If you're looking for an easy, joyful way to engage with our local schools and support students, staff and families, the Madison Public Schools Foundation is ready to help you.
