Man dies in Narail clash during football match -

The deceased was identified as Zillur Rahman Sardar, 55, son of Anwar Molla of Kulshur village in the upazila.

According to locals, a football match was organised at Eklas Uddin Secondary High School ground on Friday afternoon.

There had been long standing enmity between Sheikh Family of Babupur village and Molla Family of Panch Kaunia village over the occupation of the ground .

During the match, the supporters of both locked into an altercation when both groups entered the field, triggering a clash.

At one stage, the supporters of Sheikh Family beat a supporter of Molla Family identified as Jitu mercilessly, leaving him injured.

Angered by the incident, the supporters of Sheikh Family swooped on the house of Mujibur Rahman Sardar, president of Kalia municipality unit Awami League and stabbed Zillur Rahman, cousin of Mujibur, indiscriminately, leaving him injured.

Later, locals rescued him and took to the Kalia Upazila Health Complex from where he was reffered to Khulna Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 7:30 PM.

Kalia Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed the incident said that efforts are underway to arrest the attackers.
