The New York Jets are entering the 2025 season with Justin Fields as their starting quarterback. Fields will receive every opportunity imaginable to establish himself as the long-term starter in East Rutherford, but there's no denying that GM Darren Mougey and his scouting staff are paying close attention to various quarterback prospects in college football. Two prospects in particular stood out during Week 1 of the new season.

LSU's Garrett Nussmeier and South Carolina's LaNorris Sellers put forth the best performances over the weekend. Nussmeier completed 28-of-38 passing attempts for 230 yards, one touchdown, and zero interceptions in an impressive 17-10 road win over Clemson. The Tigers signal-caller displayed poise, accuracy, and toughness in a hostile environment.

Meanwhile Sellers looked every bit of the athletic specimen he's touted as in South Carolina's 24-11 victory over Virginia Tech. The dual-threat Sellers completed 12-of-19 passes for 209 yards and a touchdown. Sellers also rushed for 25 yards and an additional score.

The potentially QB-needy Jets should be encouraged by what they saw out of Nussmeier and Sellers in Week 1. Both quarterback prospects performed like future high-end first-round picks. With Mougey and Co. analyzing the landscape of quarterbacks in college football, there were two clear-cut standouts in Nussmeier and Sellers.
