High School Football: Major games in Indee and Gilbertville this week

The Chicago Bears' quarterback had his first ever NFL game without being sacked and threw four TD passes.

Oh, my, peasants! The Ol' Major got back on track last Friday night. What a glorious evening of picking eight of ten games correctly!

This week's slate is considerably more difficult as everyone is jostling for postseason berths.

We have a doozy down there in Indee. Those Lions from Clear Lake are heading down southeast to face off against Independence. It's a battle of undefeated and top 10 ranked teams.

I don't think Clear Lake has enough offense to overcome Indee superstar Christopher Meyer. That boy is the Major's favorite to be the Class 3A Player of the Year. I'm going with Indee in this one.

There's a small-school showdown going on at Don Bosco with the Dons hosting Gladbrook-Reinbeck. It's a rematch of last year's state quarterfinal overtime thriller won by G-R 34-33.

As a special treat, I'm sending the "Mayor of Gilbertville" down to the game - our Sports Editor Jim Nelson. He's the most famous person in Gilbertville who's never actually lived there. Kaff-kaff!

Gladbrook-Reinbeck is burning out scoreboard lightbulbs every Friday night this year. I think the Rebels take it again.

This Denver team is driving me crazy. They win when I pick against them and lose when I pick for them. Maybe I'm the problem? Harumph!

Denver and Dike-New Hartford make for an intriguing district matchup. I like the Cyclones experience and playing at home. But it will be a close one.

That Cedar Falls defense is scary good. So good that Iowa City High used all of its second-half timeouts and kept passing so the Hawks could score against the Tigers' third teamers!

Cedar Falls runs its record to 4-1 this week with a win over Hempstead.

That's enough for now, peasants! The Major needs to polish his leather helmet.
