'Miss Governor' (Season 1, Part 2) Stream on August 14
Whether you love him or hate him, there's no denying that Tyler Perry is one of Hollywood's hardest-working creatives, and his latest TV project, Miss Governor, proves he knows exactly how to cater to his devoted audience. In the sitcom, Terri J. Vaughn portrays Antoinette Dunkerson, the first Black lieutenant governor of Mississippi, who navigates the numerous challenges of her political position while serving under a sexist governor and balancing her family life.
Formerly known as She the People, the comedy underwent a name change after being sued by a nonprofit organization of the same name established by Aimee Allison, who filed a lawsuit for infringement of brand recognition against Netflix and Perry. Miss Governor garnered a mixed response upon its debut, with critics appreciating its depth and Vaughn's performance, but ultimately feeling that its light-hearted tone undermined the weight of its heavy themes. Regardless, part two of the series is scheduled to premiere on August 14, 2025.
