This date has been circled on my calendar for months.
Ever since we knew that Nebraska Athletics was outsourcing its concessions to Aramark Sports + Entertainment, we knew there'd be sweeping changes to what food is going to be provided at sporting events at Memorial Stadium, the Devaney Sports Center and at Hibner Stadium.
With the scrimmages at Devaney and the season opener at Hibner, we've seen some of those offerings. But that was just a sampler of everything that's yet to be rolled out for Nebraska football's season opener against Akron in a few weeks.
In advance of the home opener, Aramark and Nebraska Athletics hosted some media folks for a tasting of some of the new items on the menu. And I, as a service to y'all, tried everything offered (that I wasn't allergic to) so you could have a better understanding of what things taste like before spending your hard-earned credit card dollars on something.

Without further ado, let's dig in.
Loaded Mac & Cheese
Description: "BBQ Brisket, Four Cheese Mac & Cheese, Scallions"
Memorial Stadium Location: the "Blackshirt BBQ" stations in Sections 7, 16, 26 and 38
Amie's Review: "I love macaroni and cheese, so I was excited to try this. The barbecue sauce on the cavatappi noodles and the brisket was sweet. The macaroni wasn't overly cheesy. Honestly, it could have used a little more cheese since the dish was a little on the dry side, but I would eat it again. Just remember to grab a fork and a couple of napkins."
Stars: 3/5
Herbie Burger
Description: "Omaha Steaks 3-1 Beef Patty, Double Burger, Burger Sauce & Red Husker Bun"
Memorial Stadium Location: at the Herbie's Burger Co. stations at Sections 23 and 39.
Amie's Review: "I felt like I was transported back to my childhood watching 'SpongeBob SquarePants' eating the red Pretty Patty. As a red velvet cake lover, it took my brain a second to realize I was eating red bread rather than chocolate cake. The sweet pickle added a nice crunch. The perfect amount of cheese. The buns are made special for Nebraska. Though I can see how some people would be concerned about eating something that color. It tastes like a normal bun, though."
Stars: 4/5
Husker Red Hot
Description: "Grilled Nebraska Corn, Red Hot Aioli & Flaming Hot Cheeto Dust on top of a footlong red hot dog"
Memorial Stadium Location: Cob Co. in Section 5.
Amie's Review: "This was, hands down, my favorite thing on the menu. I loved the spice from the Red Hot and the Flaming Hot Cheeto Dust. Because of the spice, this hot dog isn't for the little Huskers. (Unless you have a kid who enjoys spicy food.) This is for fans who enjoy food with a little kick. The street corn-esque topping was delicious, but very messy. Make sure to have extra napkins on hand."
Stars: 4.5/5
Grilled Nebraska Corn
Description: "Cilantro Lime Aioli, Queso Cotija & Tajin on a grilled corn cob."
Memorial Stadium Location: Likely Cob Co. in Section 5.
Amie's Review: "This play on elote should be a big hit with fans. What Cornhusker fan doesn't want to eat corn at a game? I will say, though, it was a little awkward to eat, and I was standing at a table in a club area. It might be more difficult to eat when you're in your seat. The corn was sweet, and despite the Tajin, it's nowhere near as spicy as it looks."
Stars: 4/5
Chicken Nachos
Description: "Smoked Chicken Tinga, Queso Blanco, Nebraska Corn & Black Bean Pico, Cilantro Lime Crema & Husker Chips"
Memorial Stadium Location: Cornhuskers Crunch Nachos in Sections 32, 34
Amie's Review: "The topping on these was delicious. The topping-to-chip ratio was perfect for our little taster. These are basically your standard loaded nachos. I preferred these to the Tunnel Walk Nachos, but only because the Chicken Nachos came with more ingredients on top of the chips."
Stars: 4/5
Tunnel Walk Nachos
Description: "Queso Blanco, Pico de Gallo, Cilantro Lime Crema & Husker Chips"
Memorial Stadium Location: Tunnel Walk Tacos in Sections 2, 34, 339 and 604
Amie's Review: These are a pared-down, more basic version of the chicken nachos. More of a snack than a meal with the lack of protein, but a vegetarian-friendly option."
Stars: 3.5/5
Reuben
Description: Corned Beef Quick Steak, Sauerkraut, Swiss Cheese, Dorothy Lynch Dressing & Rotella's Hoagie Roll"
Memorial Stadium Location: 1923 Cheesesteak in Section 28
Amie's Review: This, like the corn, should be a hit among fans. A Nebraska classic made with Nebraska classics. The Dorothy Lynch dressing was the bow that tied it all together. It is, though, very messy. Make sure to grab extra napkins. One downside was that the bread-to-filling ratio was a little heavy on the bread side, but Rotella's is always good.
Stars: 4/5
Other new menu items
There were plenty of other new items that we didn't get to try, but they still deserve a shoutout nonetheless. Here's an abridged list.

Alcohol options
Yes, alcohol is coming to Memorial Stadium.
For national beers, there will be Bud Light, Modelo, Busch Light, Michelob Ultra, Coors Light and Miller Lite available.
The two local beers on display were Zipline's Dear Ol' Nebraska Brew and a newly announced option from Kros Strain called Cornhusker Crusher -- a citrus wheat ale.
For those of us who aren't beer people, High Noon and Nütrl will be available.
If you're going to drink, make sure to acquire it before the end of the third quarter and don't forget your identification. And make sure your license isn't expired.
The people serving alcohol will be checking everyone's IDs. And they mean everyone. So, even if you attended Nebraska's first sellout in 1962 or if you vividly remember Nebraska's heydays in the 1970s and/or the 1990s, it doesn't matter: they're going to check your ID.
