Japan had "so much aura" according to darts fans as they pulled off an early upset at the World Cup of Darts.

Ryusei Azemoto and Tomoya Goto were representing the Land of the Rising Sun as they clashed with Croatia (Pero Ljubic and Boris Krcmar) during their Group Stage clash on Thursday evening in Frankfurt, Germany.

And the Japanese pairing survived three match darts to stun their more illustrious opponents. Croatia had found themselves 3-1 up in a first to four clash.

Ljubic stepped up the oche with 76 on the board, but missed his last darts at tops. Instead, Goto, needing to take out 60, showed his opponent how it was done with a lovely dart.

Following the break of throw, Croatia again had a dart in hand to take the match - but this time it was Krcmar to fluff his lines with the game on the line. And he was punished by Goto.

Goto would have darts for the match himself, but bust his score opening the door for Croatia. However, Krcmar missed D18 allowing to Azemoto to check out 50 with a single 10 and tops.

"Japan has so much aura, go on lads," one fan responded. While a second shared: "A gloriously chaotic way to end a very entertaining match of darts, some comeback from Japan!"

"That was mental. Such good games so far. Really turned up the quality this year," a third replied. As a fourth said: "This is what the World Cup is all about!"

And another added: "Absolutely embarrassing choke job from Croatia, go on Japan!"

Japan weren't the only Asian nation celebrating - and Malaysia registered their first ever win at the World Cup of Darts as they slashed through Canada.

While Hong Kong turned on the style during their fixture with the USA.
