A WOMEN's darts team from Weymouth has made history after being crowned champions of Britain for the first time.

The Weymouth ladies superleague team were competing in the UKDA Champions Cup in Bolton.

They qualified for the tournament after winning the Dorset County Superleague in an undefeated campaign - winning all 14 of their matches to fend off Hamworthy who finished second.

Captain Macie Woodrow-Hall and vice captain Sarah Chick led their team including Lily Woodrow, Bev Scarff, Lin Bellingham, Louise Potter, Emma Drodge, and Di Martin to victory securing the team's first ever title.

They beat teams from Northumberland, county Durham and Warwickshire in the group stage, progressing as top of the group through to the knockout stages.

In the first knockout round Weymouth came up against Boozy Booshes and ended up winning 3-2.

Next up the Dorset team faced Yorkshire-based side Misfits in the quarter finals, again coming out on top in a close encounter 3-2.

Weymouth then faced home side Bolton in the semi finals and were again victorious 3-2 as they secured their spot in the final.

With momentum behind them, the team then ran out comfortable 5-0 winners against Tyne and Wear side Pennywell to lift the trophy.

It was the third time winning the competition for Chick who has previously won the title twice with Sherborne.

Chick completed the main Superleague season undefeated accompanied by Potter and Drodge

Chick also went onto win all her matches at the Champions Cup event, to make it twenty wins in a row for the Weymouth player.
