Irish darter Willie O'Connor has taken a sly dig at the English team after he and Keane Barry kicked off their World Cup campaign with a 4-2 win over Gibraltar.

The Irish duo came flying out of the blocks and claimed the first leg with an emphatic 12-darter, before taking the second with similar ease.

While some sloppy finishing gifted Gibraltar two legs at the halfway point, there was no doubt that it was O'Connor and Keane's game to lose.

Having wrapped up a third, Team Ireland delivered a sensational eleven-darter finished off by Keane Barry to seal an affair that in reality should have been over after four legs.

Speaking after their Group D victory at the World Cup of Darts, Limerick's Willie 'The Magpie' O'Connor was in a battling mood, kicking off the mind games with England stars Luke Littler and Luke Humphries early.

Asked in their post-game press conference about the 'unbeatable' nature of tournament favourites England, Willie O'Connor questioned the two superstar's egos and said they could very well fall apart under the pressure.

It's not singles like, we'll see how egos go.

If egos go against you then you never know how that doubles will go, don't know how those pairs will gel like, they might not gel together.

Yes they have the potential to just whitewash everyone in their way, but also they have the potential to fall apart, so we'll see, you don't know until it happens.

While Barry was more diplomatic in his answer, he too wasn't too bothered by the hype surrounding Darts' most famous faces, completely dismissing the idea that

No I don't really look into it.

Obviously they're the team to beat yeah, but again everyone is beatable and you just have to go up there and be the best team on the day. They are the team to beat, but you just have to concentrate on what you're doing, it doesn't matter what form anyone is in, on the day anything can happen.

We know we're playing well enough together and we'll just see what happens.

Keane and O'Connor are back in action again on Friday evening, when they'll take on China.
