A new sports club has opened in a Cambridgeshire town which has a "thriving" pool scene. The Saints Pool and Sports Club in Huntingdon Street, St Neots opened to the public on Friday, September 20.

The club has been opened by co-owners Matt Pudney, Luke Gilbert and Sammy Cradock. The three have been "brought up in pool clubs" and wanted to open a club in St Neots as it has a "thriving pool scene".

Matt said: "It's a club rather than a bar, it's a members club. There has not been somewhere like this in St Neots for a long time.

"The town needed something new on the pool scene. Pool is also growing nationally with a lot more TV coverage.

"That has put a lot of life into pool again. We didn't open just because of that, but that's part of it. We have all been brought up in pool clubs and they are safe, welcoming environments.

"Everyone also knows everyone. A lot of people have been saying for a while they wanted a club.

"We have just been looking for the right place and eventually, we found somewhere." The three friends held a tester night last Thursday (September 19) and invited families and contractors to see what the club was like.

It officially opened to the public on September 20. Matt added: "It went really well.

"It was really busy on Friday night, and Saturday and Sunday were also good. We have had 200 members sign up already.

"We also have 12 teams signed up to play on a Wednesday. Wednesday will be the pool league night and we are looking forward to that."

As well as pool, there are six TVs to watch sporting events alongside playing pool. The three owners also plan to install darts boards at one point.

They hope to add a kitchen to serve food in the future. Matt said: "We want to establish ourselves in the town and have longevity. We want to embrace the community.

"We are priced competitively on drinks, which is one incentive. There is not anywhere really like this in town.

"Members will also play pool on quality conditions. We have eight brand new pool tables and they will be re-clothed regularly.

"As a members' club, we can also make sure it's a safe environment. We are governed by our membership rules which means we can make sure the right people are in the club."

The pool club offers memberships for adults and juniors. An adult membership costs £20 for the year and a junior one costs £10 for the year. They are currently offering 25 percent off for the first year.
