Pakistan, a country frequently plagued by its own electricity shortages, is now claiming it has the capability to remotely shut down floodlights in Indian cricket stadiums.
In a startling statement in Parliament, Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif alleged that Pakistani "cyber warriors" had successfully hacked floodlight systems during IPL matches -- and had even gained access to the control mechanisms of Indian dams.
The bizarre claim surfaced just weeks after India launched Operation Sindoor in May 2025 -- a military retaliation against terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, in response to the Pahalgam terror attack in April.
While Pakistan has offered no technical evidence to support the claim, the announcement has drawn widespread skepticism, especially considering the country's own ongoing struggles with nationwide power outages. The statement seems as an attempt to distract from internal failures or to project cyber capabilities in the wake of India's firm military response.
