Jasprit Bumrah is confirmed to feature in both IND vs WI Tests as selector Ajit Agarkar believes he has had an adequate break
India cricket team chief selector Ajit Agarkar confirmed on Thursday that Jasprit Bumrah is ready to play both Tests in the IND vs WI series. The ace speedster, who is currently a part of the Asia Cup campaign, played just three Tests in the IND vs ENG series earlier this year as a part of his workload management. However, it looks like there is no picking and choosing games to feature in this time around.
Bumrah confirmed to play all IND vs WI Tests
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Agarkar pointed out that Bumrah had enjoyed a fairly long break after the end of the IND vs ENG series. He noted that the pacer had had a five-week break as he had last played in the 4th Test in Manchester. Additionally, Agarkar claimed that the matches in Asia Cup were evenly spaced out and that hence there would be no issues with Bumrah playing both the Tests against West Indies.
"This team has been picked for both the Tests, so he's available for both Tests. We've had a fair break after England. He didn't play the fifth Test either. So, there's been a five-week break. Even this tournament [Asia Cup] has been fairly spaced out till the last week. So no, he's ready and keen to play both Test matches," Agarkar said.
Bumrah is indeed India's best Test bowler overseas. Whether he is required to play a series at home is debatable. Regardless, the selectors want to avoid a repeat of what happened against New Zealand last year and are willing to take no chances.
