LSU great Sylvia Fowles will be inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame on Saturday.
The enshrinement ceremony, set to begin at 5:45 p.m. in Knoxville, Tennessee, will be the first of two such events that will honor Fowles this year. In September, she'll enter the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame alongside other all-time greats such as Carmelo Anthony, Sue Bird, Dwight Howard and Maya Moore.
"I'm still in awe at my career that I had," Fowles told Yahoo Sports ahead of the ceremony. "I know I say this a lot, but when you're playing, you're pretty much on autopilot. You're not really thinking about the accolades that you're receiving. Your mindset is, 'How can I stay healthy? How can I be a better player than I was last year? How can I be a better teammate? How can I be a better leader?'
"I wasn't really paying attention to all the things I was doing throughout my career, and so when I retired and had a chance to go back and see some of the things that I did, I'm still in awe of myself and some of the things that I've done."
Fowles, a first-ballot inductee in both halls of fame, led LSU to the Final Four in all four seasons of her collegiate career. She then won two titles and an MVP award across the 14-years she played in the WNBA, while also collecting four Olympic gold medals on the international stage. Only Diana Taurasi (six) and Bird (five) have more.
Now, the 6-foot-6 center is following the same path that her former LSU and WNBA teammate and Seimone Augustus took in 2024, when she was inducted into both the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame and the Naismith hall in the span of a few months.
Fowles will enter the women's basketball hall as part of a seven-person enshrinement class that includes Alana Beard, a Shreveport native who starred in the WNBA from 2004-2019.
