Yorba Linda saw its most expensive home sale this week with a $11.8 million hilltop mansion.

The Sept. 23 deal is the highest price ever paid for a house in the city, according to the Multiple Listing Service, selling for 13% less than when it hit the market at $13.5 million in mid-July.

Set behind custom iron gates at the end of a long driveway, this secluded 9,637-square-foot house inspired by Tuscan architecture has five bedrooms and eight bathrooms. It's smaller than the previous record holder, a 19,346-square-foot estate on over 2 acres dubbed "Satsang" that sold for $9.8 million in January 2019, the Register reported at the time.

But the lot is larger.

The home sits atop a 5-acre-plus hill, which boasts nearby canyon, Orange County basin and distant ocean views.

Glass walls and French doors frame these views from inside the home.

The listing describes a kitchen with a 30-foot barrel ceiling that seamlessly flows into the home's expansive living spaces, a primary suite with a gym, sauna and private patio deck, and an executive office.

Entertainment amenities include a 10-seat theater, a poker lounge and a resort-style backyard with "redesigned saltwater pools," a swim-up bar, an outdoor kitchen and a regulation basketball court. Water features add to the manicured grounds.

Highlights include a 60-speaker custom audio system, a 20-camera security system and more than $2.5 million in recent upgrades, the listing reads.

Bill Etchegaray of Century 21 handled the listing, while Christie Boudreau of Seven Gables Real Estate represented the buyer.

The house previously sold in September 2019 for $5.5 million.
