FIFA Rivals runs on the Mythos chain, while FIFA is migrating its digital collectibles to Avalanche.

Mythical Games has launched FIFA Rivals on iOS and Android, positioning the mobile title as its most ambitious blockchain sports game to date.

The game features global football icons such as Lionel Messi, alongside NFT-based gear that can be collected and traded by players.

The game is backed by a multi-year licensing deal with Adidas, and its launch marks a shift from the studio's previous hit NFL Rivals, which has attracted over 7 million users since 2022. Moreover, CEO John Linden sees FIFA Rivals as a significantly larger opportunity, citing football's global reach compared to the more "localised appeal" of American football (that means only Americans watch it).

Speaking to crypto media outlet Decrypt, Linden stated that the "affinity to football" makes it a much better market for the company.

Linden claims the game has already drawn interest from major brands, football associations, and even foreign governments eager to tap into its cultural pull.

FIFA and Crypto Deepen Relationship

Meanwhile, it looks like FIFA itself is deepening its presence in the crypto space after the organisation announced plans to migrate its FIFA Collect digital collectibles platform from Algorand to a dedicated Layer 1 blockchain built on Avalanche (AVAX).

Overall, Avalanche has become the go-to platform for many NFT and on-chain game developers. Just recently, Off the Grid recently launched on the Avalanche's GUNZ mainnet.

Similarly, FIFA Rivals keeps running on the Mythos chain, a Polkadot-linked network purpose-built for gaming and launched by Mythical Games.
