BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Omari Williams is a long way from home. The Parker High School and Samford University alum now plays football in Dusseldorf, Germany for the Rhein Fire of the European League of Football (ELF).
Earlier this month, Williams set the ELF all-time record for interceptions.
"It's been a really cool experience living in Europe, experiencing football outside of America," Williams said. "And also, being dominant and showing everybody why America is the best at American football."
Williams got some looks from the NFL after college, but nothing stuck. That's when the 29-year-old realized there was another way to keep his dreams of playing professional football until he was 30 going.
"Just being able to find a way to make that dream come true for little Omarri. It was just a big thing and I was like, 'I don't really care how I do it, I have to make it happen'," Williams said.
Williams is a four-time All-Star in the ELF and has been considered one of the best players in the league since it was founded in 2021.
